(KNSI) – There’s a town hall on Saturday in St. Cloud about how legalizing recreational marijuana in Minnesota.
The event is at 1:30 on Saturday at the St. Cloud Public Library.
St. Cloud Democrat Representative Dan Wolgamott will be there and talked about what he hopes to accomplish at the “Be Heard on Cannabis” event.
“I want to have a community conversation to talk about creating a responsible regulatory framework so that we can address the harms that are being caused by cannabis and establish a more sensible set of laws to improve health care and criminal justice system.”
He says based on everything he’s study and everything he’s heard, Minnesota’s current cannabis laws aren’t working and are doing more harm than good.
“Right now, hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans are using cannabis, and for our government to deny that is happening is very irresponsible.”
Democrat House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler will be at the St. Cloud meeting and says he’s going to introduce legislation for recreational marijuana during the next legislative session.
But Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says he thinks legalization is a bad idea and that it won’t happen next year. His chamber blocked a marijuana bill this year.
Democratic Gov. Tim. Walz supports legalization.
